Jan Brueghel the Elder, known as Brueghel de Velours, was the second and youngest son of Pieter Brueghel the Elder. This Flemish Baroque painter was born in 1568 in Brussels and died of cholera on 13 January 1625 in Antwerp. He was a painter of vibrant colours with a fine representation of flowers, animals, birds and objects.
This painting on wood (dimensions 54.6 x 83.8 cm), created in 1613, is now housed at The J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles, United States.
